Green Canyon is one of the rivers near Pangandaran and has very beautiful views. On the journey there we passed the rainforest then after we could see the "gate" of the canyon where we have to get in to it and pass the beautiful area with water dripping from the liana. The boat goes very slow so we could enjoy the view. We then decided to swim - the water is salty but when we are at the swimming area, it is fresh water. We went out for a swim and we were able to see further into the canyon. We also did body rafting and we would just follow the current and our boat is always following us. we were wearing the life jackets, so we didn't need to paddle.
The group was so impressed with the natural beauty here at the canyon and I would like to say, this group is so lucky as now there is still rain and I was expecting the water of the canyon will be brown as too much rain but well....it was lovely water! Green Canyon and no 'Brown Canyon!'
Next we visited the local traditional market. Here is all that we could get - they sell everything and the price is so cheap! No Tourist Price!! we spent about 30 mins here then we drive to the countryside to see the local industry how we make prawn crackers. Very traditional and it is only the family run this small industry! Next we visited other local home industries and we saw how some people make the brown sugar. As far as I knew, there are 3 type of brown sugar: sugar cane, palm sugar and coconut sugar. What we saw today was the coconut sugar. We saw how they make and how they get the nectar and how long it takes to make. 'Aep' our guide was very clear to explain how it does work. Then after we went to a puppet maker which was not too far from the brown sugar place. Here we spent for about 1.5 hours as the puppet maker was trying to show and tell us the story and how to play. He has an incredible voice as every puppet he plays has to have a different voice.
Next we went to the Green Canyon. After the Green Canyon, we went to Batu Karas Beach ( Hard Rock Beach ) and we had lunch here and relaxed while some people went out for a swim. This beach is really nice for swimming and also surfing as the wave is very nice and easy to use a long board as it is has a sand bottom. I would like to surf but waves are not really fun. So I just watched some of my friends as they went out for surf. This beach is about 35-40ks from Pangandaran. After we had enough then we had back to Pangandaran.
On the way home, we had to take the "short cut" where we had to walk and we passed the bamboo "Indiana Jones" bridge. This is a swing bridge and when we passed it the group was so impressed with some people driving a motorbike along this bridge....Perfect balance!
The next place we are off to isYogyakarta!
